Grinspoon at Brothers Leagues Club 10 out of 10

It seems to have been a long time since there has been a concert a rock concert at Brothers leagues club which for a time about ten years ago was one of Cairns biggest concert venues, with people like Wolfmother, The Beautiful Girls, Boy and Bear, Mark Seymour and a host of others playing the venue.

When Grinspoon announced they would be playing Brothers Leagues Club in Cairns earlier this year it seemed like this would be an off the charts old school gig… AND IT TOTALLY WAS.

With their first new album in 12 years and the first time they have been to Cairns in 7 years its been a while for both new music and a live show and the crowd was excited.

Natalie Foster and the rest of Press Club music played a huge set that included the lead singer jumping into the mosh for a dance and a sing with the crowd, Press Club were such a great choice of support act as the crowd was there to rock and they elevated the crowd to the point where Grinspoon hit the stage it was like a match to a can of petrol

Kris, Joe, Pat and Phil hit the stage and it just goes completely metal from the first note, as a teenager in the 1990’s I have not seen a mosh pit like that since 2001 and I have never seen a band have to stop before the third song to get the crowd to settle down and not fight…It was great but it was clear security may not have been to an old school rock gig ever in their lives.

Phil was up to his usual antics. Dancing waving and generally being an over the top rockstar in a leather jacket, which given the heat and humidity I am amazed he could wear all night.

With so many dates left on the tour I don’t want to spoil the setlist, which I managed to get a hold of at the end, But I will say The set has everything you could possibly want, new songs to which everyone knew the words, the classic songs everyone wants to hear and a blistering INXS cover that brought the house down.

This was a 10 out of 10 show and easily one of the best shows I have seen in the past ten years and was probably Grinspoon at their best ever….this is a must see tour of 2025
